The inspiration for our art car project stems from a deep love for the Star Wars universe, a passion that has fueled our creativity and vision. James envisioned a vehicle that would not only be a tribute to this iconic saga but also serve a practical purpose for our camp. After countless years of navigating the challenges of the playa, we brainstormed what would make the ultimate blend of fun and functionality. With diverse needs in our camp, including ADA requirements for our 80+ year old members and those with limited mobility, we recognized the importance of creating something special. While we had used handicapped-badged trucks in the past, we often felt uncomfortable in them. This led us to the idea of crafting a mutant vehicle that would cater to our needs while providing whimsical rides and artistic flair for everyone to enjoy. With that mission in mind, James set out to find the perfect vehicle from the Star Wars galaxy that would embody our vision, and thus, our journey began. Left is a transporter from Star Wars franchise that is the inspiration for our design.
Blueprints and Design Evolution
Initial Concepts
Being able to transport bedragled space scum in relative comfort, out of the dust and heat, required a cockpit. Enough power to tow & recover stranded space junk. All our hyper spansers onboard to do repairs out of the prying eyes at space ports
Structural Design
The vehicle needs to be tough and battle hardened. Operating in harsh climates and frequent sand storms, over pot holes and dunes, fabriction with steel tubing to form the new exoskeleton with sheet metal over, was the only choice 🙂 ok, maybe the engines and side pods are light weight foam and fiberglass, but don’t teall anyone! Evertying needs to be removal quickly for service, these trikes have parts in weird and awkward places!
Functionality
My playa name isn’t just for show! Managing all my spare parts and tools used to be a chaotic challenge. But now, beneath this intricate engine and its booster rockets lies a cleverly designed storage solution, keeping everything organized and dust-free at my fingertips!
